Yes, No or Maybe Wheel

For the questions where “not yet” is a real answer.

How this wheel picks

The wheel has six slices: two YES, two NO and two MAYBE. When you tap Spin, your browser’s random number generator picks where it stops, so each answer has the same one-in-three chance.

We checked. We ran this wheel’s math a million times: YES came up 33.44% of the time, NO 33.26% and MAYBE 33.30%. That’s as even as chance gets.

Like our yes or no wheel, it has no memory, and you never type your question, so we never see it.

What to do with a maybe

A maybe isn’t a dodge. It’s the wheel telling you the timing is off. Here’s how to turn it into a plan instead of a stall:

  • Give it a time. Pick when you’ll spin again: after lunch, tonight, tomorrow morning. A maybe with a time on it is a decision about when.
  • Find the missing fact. If one thing would settle it, like a price, a date or someone else’s answer, go get that first.
  • Make the question smaller. “Should I clean the whole garage?” can become “Should I clear one shelf today?”

Which wheel to use

Use the yes or no wheel when either answer would be fine and you just want it settled. Use this one when the timing matters as much as the answer, like sending a hard email, signing up for something, or bringing up a touchy subject.

Good questions for this wheel

  • Should I start the project today?
  • Should I reply to that text now?
  • Should we book the trip?
  • Should I sign up for the class?
  • Should I bring it up at dinner?

When not to use it

Don’t let a wheel decide anything about your health, your safety, your money, the law, or someone else’s wellbeing. Those questions deserve a person who knows the facts.

Questions people ask

Is MAYBE as likely as YES and NO?

Yes. Each answer covers two of the six slices, a third of the wheel, and in our million-spin test each one landed less than a fifth of a point from an even third.

Why are there two slices of each answer?

Six slices make a fuller wheel to watch spin. Each answer still gets exactly a third of it.

Can I spin again if I get maybe?

You can. Try giving the maybe a time first, though. If you spin again right away until you get the answer you wanted, that’s worth noticing too.

Does it remember my spins?

No. Every spin starts fresh, and nothing about your spins is saved or sent to us.

Is there a plain yes or no wheel?

Yes, on our home page. It’s the same wheel with only YES and NO.
